The bamboo roof overhead and the little kerosene lamps which light each table give Penang a cozy ambiance. Featuring exotic Malaysian cuisine, the menu offers appetizers such as fried tofu satay with peanut glaze, shrimp cakes, and roti canai (crispy Indian-style pancakes), and entrees include chicken with spicy mango sauce, beef with coconut-curry gravy, deep-fried red snapper, and shrimp wrapped in banana leaf. Most people prefer window seats, but the tropical feeling also prevails in the lounge downstairs.
This place specializes in Asian. Expect the average entrée to cost between $12 and $20, and dress casual.
