In this dark and mysterious room the blue walls are hung with vestments and Afghani rugs, the backlit bar glows, and the courteous waiters wear vests that sparkle almost like moving disco balls. The food of Afghanistan is best represented here by delicately-seasoned lamb under a mound of saffron rice, chicken stew topped with almonds and pistachios, and marinated kebabs with spiced brown rice. Good vegetarian dishes include spinach stew and sauteed pumpkin topped with yogurt. For dessert, there`s Afghan pudding with almonds and pistachios, and syrup-soaked pastries with walnuts.
If you try out Pamir, you`ll find a place that cooks up an Afghan cuisine. Expect the average entrée to cost roughly $12 to $20, and you`ll be fine if dressed casual.
