While there is no plate-smashing or dancing on tables, Molyvos evokes the best of the Greek isles, named for the small fishing village where owner John Livanos was born. His graceful taverna is lovingly adorned with colorful tiles and ceramics, family photos, and folk art. Ten types of heady ouzo can be sampled along with a fine selection of meze -- grilled octopus, tzatziki, phyllo cheese rolls -- and typical, authentic main courses of fish, lamb and poultry are robustly flavored. Before and after Carnegie Hall, it lures a rapturous crowd.
This upscale restaurant focuses on a Greek cuisine. Expect the average entrée to cost roughly $20 to $30, and there`s a prix-fixe menu. Plan to dress casual.
