A second story temple to noodles, the restaurants creates its special atmosphere with Art Deco chairs, brick walls, and ever so carefully placed flower arrangements. If you`ve got the dough for their highly celebrated small plates (or if someone else is paying), spring for the soba-sushi tasting menu ($43 per person). Or, try several a la carte dishes like giant prawn tempura, soba gnocchi, hot soba in a bowl, and sizzling udon noodles with prawns, chicken, fish cakes and vegetables. All noodles are hand-made on the premises.
With culinary talents focused on a Japanese fare, this is an upscale restaurant. Expect the average entrée to cost $12 to $20, and in general, people go dressed casual, but fashionable.
Atmosphere: The establishment has an authentic and contemporary décor. The interior is enhanced by antiques, and the lighting is set quite dim. The restaurant is small with seating for 400 people, and is romantic and relaxed and typically attracts an ethnic crowd.
More Reasons to Go: Honmura An is appropriate (if not ideal) for entertaining clients, anniversaries and other romantic evenings.
Eating & Drinking: Open for lunch and dinner.
Notable Mention: One of New York`s better restaurants.
