This stylish Midtowner takes the palate on culinary passages to both northern and southern India, with special attention paid to meatless dishes. The owners started with the renowned Jackson Diner in Queens, and transported such hits as soft vegetable croquettes, minted whole wheat bread, fried shrimp coated in sesame seeds and spiced with cardamom, and spring lamb cooked in a delicately-flavored almond sauce. Seating is roomy, food comes in attractive copper serving bowls, and service is dignified and efficient.
If you go to Diwan, you`ll find a place that specializes in Indian food. Expect the average entrée to cost for the most part in the range of $12 to $20, and go dressed casual.
