This is the best, non-touristy spot in Little Italy, where the food is made with great care and they`re not out to gouge you. There are terra-cotta floors and brick walls and tables peopled with old Italians and their younger progeny. The gruff yet lovable waiters wear spiffy black patterned vests and will guide you through courses of carpaccio with artichokes, stuffed eggplant, risotto, gnocchi with pesto, spaghetti carbonara, veal scallopine, shrimp or calamari fra diavolo, and boneless chicken with sundried tomatoes sautéed in sweet vermouth. Excellent pizzas are fired in a coal oven, and they`re amenable to special requests.
Da Nico specializes in Italian. Expect the average entrée to cost between $8 and $12, and people dress casual.
