Anyone who`s experienced Chez Josephine sighs with pleasure at the memory of being greeted at the door like an old friend, dining in an opulent and sexy set piece from yesteryear, and savoring excellent French cuisine with a down-home flair. Gregarious owner Jean-Claude Baker named it in tribute of his mother, the celebrated chanteuse Josephine Baker, and serves her old favorites along with new inventions: risotto of sea scallops and shrimp with collard greens, fried chicken with sweet potato fries and red pepper cornbread, and angel hair with wild mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes and basil. Its Theater Row location makes it ideal for pre- and post-show supping and the kitchen stays open until 1 a.m..
This upscale restaurant offers guests French and Continental food. Expect the average entrée to cost in the range of $20 to $30, and it would be fine to dress casual.
Atmosphere: The restaurant has a historic décor enhanced by displayed artwork and flowers and plants. In general, the lighting is fairly dark. With seating for 100 people, the restaurant is fun -- known to attract the occasional celebrity.
