Tiffin takes its name from a word that means a light midday meal, but this elegant, moodily-lit restaurant serves far more than light lunches. The house specialty is "frontier" cuisine, and one example of this is the delicious chole Peshawari (a chickpea-and-potato dish from the Afghani border). Other recommendations include South Indian paper masala dosai (thin rice crepes with spiced onion and potato filling), the vegetarian thali (which provides an assortment of small dishes), and the Mughlai murg shai korma (succulent chicken pieces simmered with almonds in a rich cream sauce). At the end of the meal, don`t pass on the Madras coffee -- it`s the best in the neighborhood.
Tiffin serves guests Indian dishes. Expect the average entrée to cost in the range of $8 to $12, and dress casual.
