You wouldn`t think you`d need a reservation at a restaurant that`s almost on Avenue B, but it`s so in-the-know that it`s essential. Waiting is not unpleasant, however, since there`s a sultry downstairs bar radiating blue light. Upstairs it`s so dark, reading the menu could make you blind, no matter how many candles are there to aid you. Grilled bruschetta is positively soaked in garlic, and there`s a lovely mushroom and potato salad to start. Service is thoughtful, the bread nice and fresh, and the pastas full of flavor. There are several vegetarian choices, and it`s all marvelously inexpensive.
