H - I recently took my husband to Clio for his birthday dinner. Unfortunately, we had one of those experiences that we hope soon to forget. Here's why:
*My husband had a reasonably good meal, although he was surprised by the rudeness of our waitress throughout (brusk manner; inattentive, and left us for quite a long time between plates, especially toward the end of the evening--by which time we were anxious to leave).
*We were both shocked by my vegetarian dish, which consisted of a mushroom, a tiny onion, two tiny carrots and two tiny radishes mixed with a few strands of a bitter green vegetable, and a small serving of mashed potatoes ($32). The dish was described as involving winter squash, but I couldn't find any.
*We were both further shocked when, at the end of the meal, I told the waitress that both my husband and I were rather surprised by the vegetarian dish I had ordered (my husband told me he just couldn't believe there wasn't more to it)--and she chided me unapologetically for not telling her earlier. This was not an `I'm sorry it wasn't a good experience for you,` but rather an, `I'm sorry--but it's not my problem anymore.` It made me wish I hadn't given her the nice tip that I did.
Unfortunately, we won't go back, or recommend this restaurant to anyone. In addition to poor (and rude) service, the restaurant was packed full (and waiters passing by bumped my chair every few minutes), and the meals were, while mostly edible, unimpressive. We've found competitors such as Radius and Jardine much more pleasant dining experiences.
For me, this was one of those nights where you wish you could get your money back. I went in with great expectations of a happy celebration and a good meal, and left wishing I could have those two hours back to do something else.
