Ben Pao is in a large industrial space made hip by grey and black decor, water sheeting down square columns into rock pools, and an enormous gong on the back wall. Ben Pao offers a sampling of dishes from many regional Chinese cuisines, but presented with a light twist. Even familiar dishes like Kung Pao chicken are remade with the freshest ingredients and without heavy sauces, so that every flavor makes a statement. Try the tea-smoked half duck, wok-seared salmon with crispy spinach, or Chinese soft-shelled crabs with lemon, ginger, and Cantonese herbs.
