Cavernous and industrial with a long bar and commodious banquettes, 27 Standard plays host to large parties and serious diners before and after sets in their prime downstairs club, The Jazz Standard. Chef Mich`l Smith, well-trained by Waldy Malouf at the Hudson River Club and Rainbow!, improvises seasonal American dishes such as gingered crabmeat custard in spicy carrot broth, maple- and thyme-glazed halibut, and roasted duck leg confit with wild rice fritters and foie gras butter.
Offering their guests contemporary American meals, this is an upscale restaurant. Expect the average entrée to cost in the range of $20 to $30, and you can go dressed any way you choose -- within reason.
