This wonderful Berkeley establishment was sorely needed in the posh environs of Fourth Street. The two story mustard and burgundy interior hints at the warmth of the Mediterranean fare: housemade sausages and pates, a wonderful baked salmon with an olive compote, a very good spit-roasted chicken. Flowers grace the table and the service is perfect for bistros: warm and casual.
With a menu offering a French cuisine, this is a fine dining restaurant. Expect the average entrée to cost roughly $20 to $30.
Atmosphere: The establishment has a contemporary décor. The lighting is set quite dim. The restaurant is small with seating for 95 people, and is formal and relaxed and frequented by professionals and couples.
More Reasons to Go: Café Rouge is appropriate (if not ideal) for entertaining clients.
