Yes, there are a lot of Mediterranean bistros in San Francisco, but very few of them are downtown. So, the warm decor and intimate feel at Zare is welcome. The walls are that roughened texture you see everywhere, and their butter-yellow paint makes everybody look good. Try the salmon chowder to start -- a light blend of potatoes, mushrooms, and flakes of salmon. The red pepper stuffed with rice and lentils will please vegetarians, and the pan-seared halibut is nicely cooked with wild mushrooms and white wine reduction.
Located in Looks like a cave., this fine dining establishment brings patrons a Mediterranean menu with a menu dominated by seafood. Expect the average entrée to cost in the range of $12 to $20, and you`ll be appropriate if dressed casual.
