Caribbean food had its heyday a few years ago, so it`s a pleasant surprise that Tropix just opened. Three brightly painted dining rooms show off the open kitchen, and when the weather`s warm there`s nothing nicer than sitting in the back garden sipping on Red Stripe. Try the great vegetable curry, or the innovative shrimp paw paw -- shrimps with papaya, cheese, and vegetables in curry sauce. For dessert, try the cinnamon rum bread pudding.
If you try out Tropix Backyard Café, you`ll find a place that offers Caribbean and Latin American food. Expect the average entrée to cost between $8 and $12, and plan to fit the scene by dressing casual.
Atmosphere: is accented by wood tones. Table talk is no problem here - noise level is unobtrusive.
