Perhaps owner Peter Dow, who opened this renowned restaurant in 1979, is responsible for the Italian wave which has since swept the area. The atmosphere in this creek-side house, with its small, open kitchen, is welcoming, simple, and unpretentious, and the small menu -- which is written on blackboards -- relies on Dow`s delightful tried-and-true offerings, with new dishes sneaking in every now and again. Specialties include seasonal pasta and lamb dishes. The extensive wine list offers over 250 choices, with selections from Dow`s own label. Cafe Juanita deserves its legendary status; it delivers a truly special experience.
