With the world-famous wine distributor, Kermit Lynch, on one side, and the Acme Bakery (which produces the most delicious sourdough in the Bay Area) on the other, Cafe Fanny is perfectly situated. This is Chef Alice Waters` (of Chez Panisse) baby, and it caters mostly to a morning and early afternoon crowd. The apple turnovers are huge, flaky, and greaseless; and the sandwiches, which lean toward vegetarian, are made with fresh bread, perfectly grilled vegetables, and fragrant pesto. Cafe au lait is served in huge bowls, just like in France.
