This restaurant sits in the startlingly Gothic confines of an old Presbyterian church. That would probably be enough to attract tourists, but The Abbey is also located on just about the most convenient corner in town: Piedmont and Ponce de Leon, less than ten minutes from downtown and a block from the North Avenue MARTA station. As you might imagine, people go to The Abbey more for the atmosphere than for the French-Continental fare.
Located in a former landmark church, this upscale establishment focuses on a Continental fare. Expect the average entrée to cost in the range of $20 to $30, and typically, patrons dress up -- on the nicer side.
Atmosphere: The Abbey. The architectural design is very detailed. The lighting is by the glow of candle flame. Stained glass windows accent the décor, and cathedral ceilings add depth with an architectural impact. The establishment is very spacious with seating for 275 people and attracts a middle aged clientele.
More Reasons to Go: The live piano adds to the ambience at this restaurant. The Abbey is appropriate (if not ideal) for anniversaries and other romantic evenings.
