The 1848 House is a beautifully restored and maintained ante-bellum house in which a fairly elegant restaurant has been set. As you stroll through the well-appointed rooms, you can still hear the soft Southern sibilance of Scarlett and her sisters. It is intriguing to see the furnishings and the general detail of the decor. The menu offers New Southern cuisine that has a good reputation around and about the metro area. Best known for its Southern hospitality, this is a fine dining restaurant. The restaurant offers guests a southern American cuisine where patrons tend to favor seafood. Expect the average entrée to cost between $20 and $30, and go dressed business casual.

Atmosphere: 1848 House is on the National Registry of Historic Places as an authentic Plantation home -- a site on which a Civil War battle took place. You`ll be able to take in the garden view from many seats here.

The overall structure of this restaurant is reminiscent of early american architecture. The restaurant has an authentic and historic early 1800`s style décor with a court room theme. The interior is accented by warm tones, enhanced by antiques and lush greenery throughout, and the lighting is via chandelier. Structurally, the restaurant utilizes glass and windows, and the fireplace adds to the atmosphere and mood here.

The restaurant has several dining rooms with seating for 200 people. It is comfortable and romantic and patroned by all kinds of people. Table talk is easy - this restaurant is quiet and subdued. Also, you`ll notice that there is a veranda room.

More Reasons to Go: Enjoy the sounds of contemporary Jazz when you dine here on Sunday Brunch. And, for your viewing pleasure, there`s a television available. 1848 House is appropriate (if not ideal) for entertaining clients, birthdays, anniversaries, other romantic evenings, groups and private parties; also, the restaurant is often frequented prior the theatre. When weather permits, enjoy seating outside on the porch.

Eating & Drinking: Open for dinner. There`s a Sunday brunch for $19.95 per person. The menu here at 1848 House is revised every couple of months to take advantage of the seasonal impact on freshness and availability. Some of the more popular menu items include: Charleston She Crab Soup, game, seafood, Contemporary Southern Items.

A full selection of alcoholic beverages are served, and you`ll find that there is a superb wine list with vintage options. In addition, the restaurant has a seated bar inside.

Notable Mention: ``Best Southern Cuisine`` and ``Makes you proud to be a Southerner`` by Atlanta Magazine; ``Four Diamonds`` by AAA; and winner of the ``DiRoNa Award``.

Of Interest: 1848 House is situated on 13 landscaped acres that have been restored to decor representing its historic period.

Details to Note: Reservations are suggested. Smoking is permitted in smoking areas. Entrances and walkways are wheelchair friendly. Children are welcome. Parking has been arranged for customers.
