Mama Marie, the overseer of this nice Italian spot, resembles Martin Scorsese`s mother in looks and no-nonsense manner -- and patrons adore her for it. It`s small and eclectic in style, with photos of her grandchild, nice artwork and puppets dressed in armor dangling on the walls. The food is southern Italian, and Mama herself says to get the fried red peppers, the mussels in a light tomato-garlic sauce, rigatoni with eggplant, peas and fresh tomatoes, linguine with anchovies, olives and arugula, scampi fra diavolo, and veal chop grilled with rosemary.
Via Oreto Italian specializes in Italian cooking. Expect the average entrée to cost over $20.
