RESPOND TO VISITOR REVIEW Enter your response to herkjason in the space below and RATE this restaurant using the drop-down options to the right. herkjason - I am only 24 years old, but I enjoy old fashioned Jewish food having grown up on the food cooked by my grandmas and many of my great-aunts. I even loved Triplets, a restaurant,now out of business, started by former employees of Sammy's. I was excited to be going to Sammy's for my grandmother's 80th birthday. Sammy's pushed the over $40 price fix per person menu and told us nothing about the $8 surcharge a person for the less than exciting entertainment, a loud guy acting as a DJ and playing songs such as the horah. The Price Fix plan was supposed to include everything on the menu, but many items such as `Chicken Fricasee` we asked for, but the waitors just would not give us these items saying they were ` bad here.` The signature Romanian Steak was decent,but had little seasoning and mostly you just tasted tons of butter and oil. The side items were terrible. They had the worst stuffed cabbage I ever ate. The kasha tasted worse than the kind you microwave in the supermarket. It doesn't seem like they really have a chef here at all. No spice is used on anything except salt and pepper. The management must think its cute the atmosphere looks like a person's basement would've looked 25 years ago, but for a restaurant charging so much money in Manhattan I think their atmosphere could be better. Overall a colossal waste of money even if you are nostalgic for old fashioned Jewish food. You could do better spending $12-15 a person at any Jewish deli style restaurant in New Jersey or Long Island. Even my grandparents who always long for Jewish food when we eat other cuisines were disappointed.
