This little East Village box car is not much to look at, with its Middle Eastern art that looks like the sort bought in tacky tourist shops. Out back there is an expansive concrete garden that`s pleasant to lounge in during warm nights. The food, though, is disarmingly fresh and flavorful: vegetarian stuffed grape leaves, lamb shish kebabs, couscous, and baked eggplant with garlic and chick peas. The falafels are ridiculously cheap and filling, but don`t expect anything in a hurry.
Sahara East offers guests a Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine. Expect the average entrée to cost for the most part in the range of $8 to $12, and most people dress casual.
More Reasons to Go: If you time your visit accordingly, you`ll get to enjoy the ancient art of belly dancing in a live performance Thursdays through Saturdays.
