fleur75004 - The RIVER CAFE is one of our favorite places for a special dinner. The excellent food and wine, the fine service, and magnificent setting make this restaurant unique. It is, however a full service restaurant where one goes to enjoy a full dinner experience. I am sorry this diner had such an unpleasant experience with the telephone reservation desk. However, one should be reminded that it is unthinkable to go to an equally fine restaurant in France, whether in Paris or on the Côte d'Azur and expect to have a light meal or one course. I am reminded of a rather annoying experience at Brasserie Lipp in Paris....`no salad as a meal` in English.Inappropriate at lunchtime in Brasserie or Bistro it seems perfectly normal at a fine restaurant. It is a shame the suggestion of having something at the Bar was not taken. The perfect place to enjoy the view, experience the atmosphere and something light to eat. - Is follow up to post by prieloff ...
To whom it may concern:
I called to make a reservation for a friend and myself. I was told that unless I spent $200 minimun I should not go there. I was quite surprise. I asked if there was some entertainment cover charge. The manager replied no we have a piano player. He told me that I had to eat a full course even if I did not feel like it. When I told him that we were light eaters and did not eat that much he suggested that we came to the bar. MY friend does not drink. Wht we wanted was to have the freedom to eat what we liked and order what we liked. Is it not what going out is all about. The man was rude. He assumed that we were two unsophisticaded ladies who would sit for a long time a not cosume accordingly. Well he was wrong and extreemly abnoxioud in order to discourage us from going over to his restaurant. My friend goes back to France tomorrow and she lives in the South of Frace at Antibes. She and I have been all over the world and frecuented many fine places. We have never had this kind of attitude. I will make sure that other people knows about this unpleasent incident.
