As I recently told someone, just because we were talking about good dinners: When I was a child, Sorrento's was considered to be a rather cheap little restaurant, but, it was convenient in that it was near to a movie theatre, so, one time Dad went and ordered a pizza from there when we were waiting (seemingly forever) for a Star Trek movie. The pizza was delicious! It was cheap, yes, but, not at all low-quality, so I cannot think WHAT foolishness was in the heads of people who told us not to go there. As a much older person (by about 23 years or so) I went back to Sorrento's, sat inside proper. The atmosphere had changed considerably. It was beautiful, low-key, moodily lit, and smelled of all good things Italian, except, perhaps, young men fresh from the surf.
It was not as cheap as before, I must tell you, but, my sister and I ordered their stuffed halibut dinner to share, as it costed about $20 and that's about what we had.
The staff was very friendly, very understanding, quick, and efficient. Also, they told us the stuffed halibut was good, so, now we know they were honest, as well,if a little prone to under-exaggeration.
The stuffed halibut was mind-staggeringly good in a way that my taste buds have never gotten over. I don't know what all they did to it, but, it was far too good to be a fish dish, as far as I'm concerned. The sauce over it was lovely, too.
To top it off, we shared this meal and both had leftovers for the next day as it was HUGE.
So, all in all, it was a very good value; and, if you go to Anchorage, I suggest you try very hard to get to Sorrento's!
