Better yet, take a group of people and share EVERYTHING! The staff loves it. My family has been going to Le Frere Taix for nearly 60 years! And to think I `discovered` it in the 90s. Bragging about it, and taking my mom there, she sat, looked around, eyes glazed. `My GRANDPARENTS used to bring me here when we went shopping at Bullock's Wilshire!` I was deflated. The French onion soup is to DIE for. We hosted a group from out of town, ordered several items on the menu, then asked for clean plates as we were going to taste EVERYTHING! The endive salad alone is worth going for. Not only that, but the bar menu features such goodies as a country pork sandwich. That, paired with a delicious bowl of French onion soup...divine. I no longer live in LA, but whenever I visit, TAIX is on the list.- Is follow up to post by chefathome ...
When are you going to understand that the portion you are served is the one that you can eat? This is not food that you put in a "doggy bag", bring home, forget in teh fridge and then trash. This is real art for which chefs spend days and weeks to create a sample of what will be in front of you. This is a dedication to your palate, to your eyes and to your nose. Do you Criticizes the artisit who is painting a small canevas instead a large one? If your answer is no, then forget about the portions and think about what your stomach can eat, not swallow, and take the time to appreciate a meal with all therespect for the Chef who prepared it like you would have for the paint or the wood carver.
Each time I hear people talking about portion, I really think that they should not go in a french restaurant and stick with their regular Italian pasta food. To understand another culture, people must be open and not having mind set. -- 8/1/2006 5:15:51 PM
