I moved to Indianapolis from the western part of the US. Occasionally, when in San Francisco, I would decide on eating Chinese. Often I would be amazed at the flavors that would present themselves when dining at some of the better restaurants. In my opinion, House of Cheung compares favorably with many of the best Cantonese-themed establishments that I have visited in that area. The food is very fresh, well-prepared, and has a different feel than so many of the `copycat` Oriental eateries around the city. He does chow mein and lo mein dishes the way I remember from California instead of using spaghetti noodles and lots of cabbage-- a common practice to others in the area.
The atmosphere in the dining area is is serene with elegant touches, yet informal overall.
What impresses me most is simply the taste of the food, especially the Cantonese dishes. The people are also very approachable and are eager to serve. The price is VERY reasonable considering the QUALITY and VOLUME of food.
I believe this establishment is one of Indy's best-kept secrets! Try them for dinner first. I have not eaten at the lunch buffet, which seems more of a `me too` offering to compete with others.
Imagine eating in a restaurant other than a diner, where the chef often takes time to visit you at your table!
