My recent experience at this restaurant was one that I will not soon forget, too bad it is not a good one. The food was merely okay and way overpriced. The atomosphere is pretentious and the help with the exception of our server bordered on rude. Our server was polite and friendly but had to be reminded several times before our requests were taken care of. I am old school in that I believe the tip is how I convey to the server and manager how well they did their job. 15% was being generous but I was okay with it. The policy at Bandera is 18% for parties 5 or more. Service was poor and 15% was a stretch as it was. When my card was returned I inquired of the hostess as to what amount was I charged - she remarked 'but of course the 18% was included and I let my displeasure be known without cursing or raising my voice. I left her desk and returned to the table where my friends were still finishing dessert when the manager showed up and just stood there. I had not asked for management and yet he commented that management was requested? He stood there even after I told him I had not asked to see him. He spoke just loud enough so that others could hear, that he could not force me to tip and could fix my bill and so on. Until, I too just loud enough for others to hear told him what I tell you `the food is okay, but overpriced, the service was very poor, and my experience was the PITS, I will not return nor recommend this place anyone I care about`. I felt as if his intent was to shame me for questioning their policy, possibly to let others who had similar views know what they could expect.
