I've been going to Mezzaluna for at least 15 years---I think it's a few more, but I don't want to go overboard. And it's always been the same, although blessedly it's less `place to be seen` than it used to be. Now you can focus on the food, which is incredible. It is expensive---I don't know what's $12, except maybe a salad, and I think non-pasta entrees, like veal, are more like $24 and up---but it's worth it. Nothing is ordinary; nothing is something you can get elsewhere. From the simple penne with tomato and mozzarella to the pizza ortolano to the veal milanese (so thin you wonder how it could be so tender and perfectly cooked). . . even the iced tea is amazing. I own their cookbook, and it's wonderful to make the recipes at home, but I can't duplicate the dishes with their skill. I don't know what the main review is talking about with `cakelike tiramisu,` though. Their tiramisu is exactly the formula for tiramisu: espresso-dampened ladyfingers buried under a deep level of thick, almost custardy cream, heavily dusted in cocoa. It melts onto the plate. Not like any cake I've ever seen. The waitstaff can be a little busy or distracted, but if you're friendly to them and show that you love their food and their restaurant, they treat you well. It probably helps to go there for 15 years also. And that wouldn't exactly be a burden, except maybe on the wallet. But they do take credit cards now!
