My husband and I tried Da Mimmo for Baltimore's Restaurant Week. I had heard that it had great food but was very expensive (you'd pay at least $100 per person), but thought that the $30 price fixe Restaurant Week menu would remedy that.

We should have stayed home. Our waiter was very curt, asking if we wanted sparkling or tap water. I started to say, `I would like the sparkling but my husband wants tap,` but the waiter left immediately upon hearing `sparkling,` which meant my husband had to suffer through water he hates. When the waiter came back to take our drink orders, I inquired about wines by the glass, the waiter said that they only sold half bottles ($20+). Now this place has a bar... you can't tell me that they don't sell glasses of wine there! But, not wanting to cause a scene we ordered mixed drinks instead. However, the waiter took MY drink order, and then left the table before getting my husband's order! It was very strange. My drink was $10.50 for a very weak Tom Collins -- I could barely taste the gin.

The food was good enough, though nothing to write home about, and when they asked if we wanted garlic bread, we weren't told that it would cost $8.50 for four small pieces.

The eclectic atmosphere is interesting though not suggestive of fine dining, but the prices sure are. In all, we paid over $120 with tip (remember, appetizer, entree & dessert were supposed to be only $30 pp, so you do the math...) Had we had outstanding service, better food, more generosity from the restaurant, a more enjoyable atmosphere, ANYTHING, I suppose we would have had a good time, but we left wishing that we had gone out for sushi instead.

However, I'm grateful that we tried Da Mimmo when we were paying $100+ and not $200+, so I'll chalk this up to experience and never darken the door of Da Mimmo again.
