The Tin Angel in Pittsburgh is a `train wreck`....unless you're a bona fide `tourista` don't bother. I lived in Pittsburgh 20 years ago, and went to Tin Angel (and LeMont next doors), and just returned there for dinner with two other couples. From cradle to grave, it was a complete mess!1) The place does have the best view of Downtown Pittsburgh, but so does the observation deck for the Duquesne Incline!
2) The tables and chairs were cheap, heavy, and the chair pads fell-through and made us all numb by the end of the evening! Get some decent furniture for the price of the food.
3) We were rotated through about five different waitresses (very confusing), and no, one was not the official wine steward/summolier. The main waitress BELLOWED-OUT the entree choices from the end of our table, disrupting the whole restaurant. We thought it was some sort of comedy act. The dessert waitress again rattled off the choices and demanded our orders so fast, we couldn't get her to repeat or slow down...a real robot!
4) The Tin Angel 'signature' appetizer dish was the size of a large boat and full of HUGE chunks of carrots, dolmades, artichoke heards, etc. Too much, not well presented, and the carrots must have been sliced at least 12 hours in advance. I bet they refilled it for the next table.
5) After getting our `shouted` dinner choices, we were presented with the menus...so, there are no specials at the Tin Angel, just a standard 5-course meal. The veal was very mushy, and the lobster was very chewy.
6) Six of us wakjed out with a $400 bill plus gratuity. Very expensive, almost a joke in terms of food quality and service, but you're paying for the view.
*** Best hint: turn the place into a night club, do a tapas-style lighter menu, or just go there for a drink and appetizer on the lower level bar.
