THEY ARE in business! They have a location on West between Embassy and Bitters in the Embassy Shopping strip mall near the 281 hwy- We stumbled upon them for Valentine' Days when looking for a place that wasn't too packed or expensive, plus would allow us to bring our very well behaved toddler for a romantic dinner. bad idea, until we found Boccone's. They had a wait of 15 minutes, part of the restaurant closed off (maybe from lack of servers?) and a beautiful section that looked like a courtyard inside the restaurant! There are murals on the wall, clean booths and floor and friendly staff. It was definitely romantic and they accomadated my son in a cozy booth near the back so we wouldn't disturb anyone (our preference).
The food was WOW! The appetizers were so flavorful and large! We had the one with three types to try. The entree was great! I had the chicken with mushroom wine sauce + fresh veggies. The sauce was so flavorful with wine, garlic, butter-I could bathe in it! Yum! My husband had the chiken picata- it was gorgeous- breaded perfect, moist inside, lemon flavor and butter with garlic! Perfect! My son couldn't stop eating our food- he's 2! There was so much food we had to take some home- no room for their HUGE desserts! The wine was also good, chilled, fresh, not old and flat.
The staff checked on us regularly and always was there before we needed something.
The pictures on the wall are packed full of family history and nostalgia. The family is adorable and looks full of history- a real italian gem of a restaurant.
It looks as though they are not full staffed and their wood-fire pizza oven was not being used that day? They need to get some chefs in the open kitchen for people to watch while they eat- the italian kind that sing while they cook! :)
We are definitely going back and recommend this to anyone looking for a unique, original, authentic, fresh, flavorful, romantic, italian restaurant on the northside of SA! Alison Voore

Please note that Boccone's has been out of business since the end of 2003. We sold the restaurant to another operator who opened the Prickly Pear restaurant in the facility in 2004.
