Food: The food is very standard and not anywhere close to the price one should pay for it. Lamb Shank was decent but very bland. Came with Orzo which was average and watery steamed broccoli. Pork, vinegary but tasted good. Salmon, large but below quality fish and was overcooked - when forked it broke apart in large dehydrated chunks. The salad - for about $17 - was unbelievably sub-par. Hummas with Pita quite good ($7). Service: Most unfortunate and a bit hostile. At the IGR, I had a reservation for about 20 and ended up with 15 - with about 5 trickling in within the hour we got there. Waitress refused to take our order until the rest were seated. I then asked her again kindly that two will be here late and that we would like to order. Then, to my horror - she turned around and got the manager who then started raising his voice at me in front of my guests!!! I felt so embarrased. He said that we had a reservation of 20 and demanded to know why 20 people are not there! He then blamed me - again in front of my guests – for bad management – in front of the guests!!! The rest of the night – busboys, not servers, delivered and took back our food. Ambience: Beautiful. And this is the shame of the restaurant. Sub-standard food and rude service just ruined everything the environment. Alternatives in Dupont: The Tabbard Inn should be your first choice. Excellent cuisine with homemade sausages and desserts. It is directly across the street from IGR and has a beautiful outdoor patio. Beacon Bar and Grill around the corner from IGR. Excellent food and nice interior designs. They also have a rooftop bar/eating area which overlooks DC. Dupont Grille, large, quality portions and excellent desserts. Note, that all these places are about $5-$10 less expensive than IGR and offers wonderful food and service. For romance, I would highly recommend The Tabbard Inn. For larger gatherings with families/friends, I would recommend the Beacon and the Dupont Grille.
