Forgot to mention the deep fried eggroll my friend ordered. Again, this is NOT a good Japanese restaurant.- Is follow up to post by fbsd ...
So-so Japanese fare - rundown & dirty restaurant. I can't speak for the sushi bar because I was only in the Teppan steakhouse part - the sushi bar is across the small courtyard.
I went late in the lunch hour with a co-worker who really likes the place, but she's not a great fan of Japanese cooking, so it's easy to understand her attraction to it. We were seated quickly at a table - none of the long waits one can experience at a Beni Hana when you have to wait for a full table.
My friend ordered a filet mignon which was whittled into fragments in soy sauce, served over fried rice with grilled bean sprouts & mushrooms.
Yes, I said fried rice - no, it's not Japanese, but that's what they served, at the customers' request.
I ordered edamame ($3) & a small sashimi combo (10 pcs) which was priced reasonably at $10. The portions of fish were generous, but both steamed rice & shaved pickled ginger were missing from this meal. Some of the fish wasn't as fresh as I am accustomed to having, but this is inland, so I try to be accomodating. The order of unagi was also very nicely done.
To the point: the restaurant floors were filthy, with food splatters visible throughout - it looked like there had been an Animal House food fight. Also, the women's bathroom was in a pretty dreadful state, especially the floor in the entry.
Try Noda's in Rio Rancho for great Japanese! -- 2/7/2007 5:07:19 PM
