After dining last week at Gramercy Tavern and Aureole, my husband and I chose to go to an old favorite, The Waverly Inn. With all the hype it has been getting, we expected some changes, but not the rudeness, crowded tables, and high noise level we encountered. It was impossible to carry on a conversation - unless we wished to do it with the person sitting beside us at the next table only inches away. Our drinks were served some time after our first course arrived. The sirloin was passable. On the positive side, the cream caramel was one of the best I have ever had. This used to be a wonderful, welcoming neighborhood spot we recommended to all our friends. That won't be happening for awhile.
