First and foremost, I work in the foodservice business and dine out 3-times per week. I never send anything back to the kitchen and certainly don't expect to be “comp’d” for anything. However, I do expect that restaurants will do the right thing - especially when this happened last night at Chez Henri, Cambridge, Ma . . . I've been going to Chez Henri for several years and had great experiences until last night. I ordered a cup of their French Onion Soup from their `trio` side of the menu. The soup was the most boring / flavorless French Onion I had ever had (picture hot water and sliced Spanish onions.) My wife, who never complains, wasn't impressed either. The bar tender (we always preferred their lounge) saw the full cup still sitting in front of us and said, `We just put it back on the menu - they must have had a bad batch,` and took it back with an apology. Then he bill came. To my surprise, the soup still appeared on the bill priced at $12.00. (Important to note the soup on the al la carte side of the menu was Heirloom Pumpkin for $8.00 and the Cuban Sandwich, one of the best in town, is only $13.00.) Giving the bar tender the benefit of the doubt I ask, `Was this soup really $12.00 per cup?` She replies, `Yes it is.` A ridiculous choice on her part as I doubt I will ever return to Chez Henri. I left completely disappointed in how this was handled - regardless of the $12.00. Such a little thing, yet such a big picture. I would have thought more from Paul O'Connell's staff. - Fellow JWU Alum.
