From what I have heard about Laudisio's, I expected to dine in a classic, Italian themed restaurant. Instead of having Italian music and dimmed lighting, their new digs in the 29th St. Mall gives way to modern interior design and Top 40 pop hits. As I walked in with my sweet friend, Loretta, I wondered if I was L.A. or Boulder.

The mushroom pate appetizer was a pleasant surprise. The pate itself was accompanied with a ramekin of sauteed mushrooms and another of goat cheese. The combination of the three on the toasted bread was a flavor which I had yet to experience and one for which I was truly grateful. I anxiously awaited the entrees.

We had a good Pinot Grigio and our `entrees` arrived. I may be out of the new-age cuisine loop but if Laudisio's entree size is a sign of the changing trends, then we may want to start asking for more bread during the meal. My $26 lobster dinner consisted of three medium sized bites. Literally, 1-2-3 done! When I offered Loretta a bite she turned it down (bless her heart), not because she didn't want it but because she knew that she would be eating a third of my entreee with one bite. If it wasn't for the risotto (and some delicious almond? puree), I truly would have ordered something additional to eat. The halibut was delicious, with lemon and dill. The fish was accompanied by...well, parsley! No mashies, no veggies, no nothing. Just the fish. At this point, I recommendeded stopping my Good Times afterwards in order to actually get some food for dinner.

In order to sufficiently appease our hunger, we ordered some dessert. Although the lemon in the Canoli was a bit much, it was quite good and the fresh fruit was a nice touch.

We waited a while for our server to return with the check, but we were used to his delay by then.

Other menu items offered promise of a decent meal, like the 8 oz. filet, however, I'm not sure if side items would come with it...it's just a chance you're going to have to take at Laudisio's!
