We visited NYC after Christmas in 2004. Someone told us to go to to Mangia e Bevi for dinner. We walked there only to learn there was a huge waiting line. Being accustomed to waiting in Florida during the tourist season, put a sour taste in our mouths so we looked next door and found Julian's. The atmosphere was very inviting so we opted to walk right in and be seated. Remember, we are from Florida; we ordered calamari for an appetizer. Oh my gosh! It was the best calamari we have ever had. Huge succulent pieces! The best. Every time we order calamari to this day, it gets compared to Julian's version. I don't recall what each of us ordered off the menu for dinner, but I do remember that the four of us thoroughly enjoy everything that we ordered. The wine was marvelous; the service was impecable; the evening was a supreme success. When I visit NYC the next time, I will be sure to visit Julian's again. It was a very pleasant experience with NO waiting!!!!! Forget the next door place that everyone is referred to. Julian's is A-one. (At least it was at Christmas 2004!!)
