My wife and I were there the weekend of 9/8/06 and the service and food were excellent!! We had three meals and did not experience any of what was stated in the last post. We go to OC several times a year and have always enjoyed going to Alec's. It's the best place to eat in OC!- Is follow up to post by blardent ...
A few years ago we went to Alec's every night for a week and enjoyed the food and service alot and recommended the restaurant many times. In Jan. 2006 we had a chance to be in Ocean Shores again and, of course, went to Alec's for dinner and we were very disappointed. The food was just ok and the service was terrible. We were mostly ignored by the waiter - he seemed to feel that a larger, louder (and probably protential big tippers)were more interesting than just two people. I left feeling very angry. We recently were in OS again (July 27th) and thought we would give it one more try. When we first walked in, we had to wait to be acknowledged by the person at the cash register although she wasn't busy - apparently they don't understand the "five second" rule - that is greeting customers as quickly as possible. Even if we couldn't be seated right away, we should have been acknowledged as standing right in front of her. The waitress we had - Karen CA - was completely uninterested in us so I would rate her service as very poor. My chicken was way overdone but I was hestitant to complain because I was sure she would have made a fuss about it. She never did come back and ask if everything was alright. After we were finished, we were never asked if we wanted dessert and when I asked if I could have a cup of hot tea, she actually looked at me as though I were crazy for wanting something more. I even asked her if something was wrong and, I guess, she realized the look she had given me. Believe me we will NEVER go back or recommend Alec's again. It is a shame because we had such a womderful experience there in the late 90's. I don't know if the management has changed hands or not but they definately need to do some training of their wait staff. -- 8/3/2006 9:51:51 AM
