I have been going to Atch-Kotch ever since it opened and I have frequently seen people that I personally know to be same sex couples eating there. The owners go out of their way to make the place homey, welcoming, friendly and a good value. They don't judge people based on their age, sex, sexual orientation, degree of wealth, education, gender diaspora, race or by any other discriminatory means. They are simply among the most generous accepting people I have ever met and frankly, it is a pleasure and a privilege to know them. At Atch-Kotch, apart from the food being absolutely wonderful, fresh and delicious country style Japanese, which is relatively unusual in Los Angeles, and a tremendous value in the overpriced Hollywood restaurant scene, the owners take the Japanese tradition of hospitality to heart and treat everyone as if they were a part of their family. When they say, `Irashimasai` when you come in the door, they mean it literally. I can't comment on the way that the people who were complaining were treated or why. I wasn't there. I would speculate that they were likely behaving badly, causing a disturbance or in some way forcing the management to take action to insure the comfort of the other patrons. I am positive that there was some other factor involved other than sexual orientation or discrimination of any kind. In any case, I am sure that it is some manner of misunderstanding. I would hope that they reconsider their opinion and give Atch-Kotch another chance. I am sure that they will find that they are wrong if they can just be open minded enough to try it again. If they cannot do that, I suggest that other gay patrons temper their reading of the complaints of discrimination against the heartfelt statements of others who have lept to the defense of the management and owners of Atch-Kotch. Consider that we have no vested interest in the place other than simple fairness. If you want great Japanese food, go their yourself and make your own decision.
