Sometimes you just really want to like a place before you go. I'll admit it; I really wanted to like Chow when I walked in. From the hand painted lettering on the window that reminded me of the lettering on an old coke bottle, to the window nooks that make everyone waiting to get in envious... I just really wanted to like the place. But in the end, Chow was just basically a vanilla joint at Gelato prices. The menu was limited for breakfast and what was offered on the menu was more of a scrambled (literally –egg scrambles--) hodgepodge of flavors, than a focused offering of house specials. On top of that, the service (which started out nice) was slow with the coffee refills (despite a full gaggle of waiters) and turned strangely prickly when dealing with an ordering error. At the end of the day, there are just too many breakfast places in San Francisco for me to give Chow another shot. But, who knows? Maybe the wood fired oven and the dinner menu make this place a worthwhile stop for dinner, rather than brunch. Its just too bad that I will never take the time to find out.
