STILL THE BEST IN TOWN? You be the judge. Promptly seated at time of reservation, but waited 17 minutes before ANYONE approached table. Another 15 minutes till drinks arrived. Had to suggest waitress inquire as to beverage refills. Salads took longer than normal and told waitress we had no anchovie fillets as requested. Never came. Finally asked bus boy for help, who promptly brought them. Food took longer than normal and was good but not as outstanding as promoted. Fancy names, fancy prices, fancy presentations, but mundane flavors experienced by all. Waitress checked back but then did vanishing act. Finally had to ask bus boy about possible dessert choices. He did a nice job and found waitress to take beverage and dessert orders. Desserts were `fancy pancy' but nothing exceptional. Checks came promptly, because we were only ones left in place and everyone wanted to go home. We asked for seperate COUPLES checks and got single check. It took her forever and checks were mixed up with our credit cards and given to wrong parties. We still tipped 20%, mainly due to nice young man who cleaned table and suggested dessert. FINAL COST, ABOUT $100 FOR EACH. For a $400 table bill, the service and chef's talant should have been as impressive as the prices. A memorial picture is on the wall of a dear man who founded this restaurant. I would hope they turn it against the wall until his dream returns to the level he left it. Incidentally, the establishment had empty tables and was not crowded as expected for a Saturday night. We probably aren't alone in our disappointment. They obviously were operating understaffed with less than professional personnel in front and behind the wall. If you still go and could care less about what you spend and what you get, they have an excellent wine and liquor bar. Too bad there was no entertainment to accompany our dinner or we may have overlooked some of the shoddy service. A real disappointment after looking forward to dining there.
