Ruth's Chris has two locations in Indianapolis. This one is located downtown near several other well-noted steak houses and the Circle Center mall. While this location has much closer quarters than the other on the north side, the atmosphere is rich and well appointed. Bartenders are capable and friendly, and the wine list has plenty of depth.
Once seated your service will range from average to tops depending on your server. The menu is pretty much standard steak- house style for today with a few non-steak main courses thrown in and several very nice options for starters.
Your steak will be served hot and in the signature butter. I've been to this location several times and about 75% of the time my steak is cooked correctly. The rest of the time it is over done. The only time I selected fish at this location I had the Tuna and it was so overcooked and dry that I had to send it back. It was the worst piece of fish I had ever eaten.
When you get to desert you'll find a traditional creme brule on the list that is well executed and that keeps the strange items some chefs seem to want to throw in these days (I've seen everything from chocolate to fennel) out of the mix.
Overall, it's a solid place but I wouldn't call it the best in town. It's really more of a see and be seen location for the Indy set. If you want to be sure your steak is cooked to order and that you get a bit more quiet with your meal pass on this location and head to the one on the north side instead.
