When leaving a cash tip but paying by card, my habit is to inform the server I intend to leave cash as a gratuity in ensure there is no misunderstanding. However, it is unfortunate the hostess didn't merely inquire if there was a problem with the service (e.g. no tip on the debit slip) vs. the embarassing bluntness of her comment.- Is follow up to post by millerchuck ...
Had a wonderful dinner for 4 (3 clients) on 11/14, dropped $195 and put it on a debit card. Was planning on a 20% cash tip. The hostess came over to say, "excuse me, you did not leave a gratuity on the bill!" They've lost my business. -- 11/15/2005 11:47:17 AM
