Went in Hema's on a recommendation. We've eaten on Devon Avenue at many places for years and loved it. Hema's food was great, however, the service was downright horrible. The wait was well over an hour for 3 dishes, even though the restaurant was relatively uncrowded for a Friday evening. They seem to give better service to their take-out customers. The young waiter was horrendous, and absolutely needs serving lessons. He ignored my 2 attempts as to when our food would arrive after an hour. The food is a little pricey for Indian food for the size of the servings, but I have to say that overall, is fantastic. Hema made up for the service by offering us a free dessert. I would go back again but next time I would be prepared to wait out and not have 2 kids with me and my husband.- Is follow up to post by s9d ...
i'm in disbelief that no one has reviewed
Hema's quaint little spot off of Devon. First,
you can find good indian food all over
chicago, but none like Hema's. the food is out
of this world, it's inexpensive and the best is
when you meet Hema. you'll feel that you've
walked into your grandmother's house and
she's ready to feed you til you need a couch to
lie down on. i suggest the lamb vindaloo,
which is my favorite. i could carry on and on,
but just go and say hi to Hema and the rest
will follow.
