I finally decided to try this place after 7 years living in the area and hearing good things about it. The name had never struck my fancy. When I arrived I was immediately impressed by the layout and the level of decor. Not your typical seafood place. And being that this is the Capital Region, I was doubly impressed by the highly-professional, well-attired, attentive, and very comfortable friendliness of the wait staff and maitre 'd. And while I felt there weren't enough seafood selections for an 'oyster house', what I had was outstanding, particularly the main course special of scallops, shrimp and salmon, all prepared with a rasberry sauce, and done to exquisite perfection. And dessert made me see crustless cheesecake in a new light, as it was even better than most cheesecakes WITH a crust...and served atop a pool of delicious strawberry sauce. On top of it all, you can walk in casually dressed without the funny looks. Don't let the name fool you, Jack's Oyster House is fine dining for the casual individual, and a cut above typical seafood restaurants. At under $50 for soup, salad, appetizer, entree AND EVEN DESSERT AND COFFEE, it was well worth it, and I shall be returning soon!
