This is our favorite Japanes restaurant in Chicago in terms of qulity of food for the price charged (good value). Also the staff is very nice and service is good. I have probably had half the things on the menu and encountered only a few disappointments. The sushi is high quality and the fish has alway been fresh. The grilled salmon dishes have also always been good. For appetizers, try the goma-ae, the tuna and avocado salad, the tatsuta-age chicken and the beef and asparagus. All the sushi is high quality and fresh (I always judge the freshness of the fish by the quality of the uni (sea urchin) which has always been fresh and tasty). Portions are good sized. The sukiyaki and pork katsu are nothing special, but will satisfy you. Tempura is good. Try the Tokyo Lime Cheesecake for dessert. It's a winner. Outside of very fancy Japanese experiences like Mirai or Japonais, we think Renga-Tei is the best place for Japanese food in the Chicago area (i.e. same quality and better prices than Sushi Wabi, without the attitude).
