This is a copy of a note sent to the SP.Dear Mr. Ruppert
On the evening of April 1, 2005, I was in your restaurant with two guests. The SP had been recommended to me as place for experiencing fine German cuisine. Since the restaurant industry has been part of my family tradition for decades, I thought you might be interested in this constructive criticism and take it as such.
Our orders consisted of the baked salmon, veal medallions with Roquefort and the vegetarian dish with portobello. These were very well prepared, ample portions with much flavor. Congratulations to the chef. However, they probably sat under the warming lamp for too long. Since the dining room was not full at the time, there didn't seem to be a logical reason for this to happen.
We ordered dessert: the apple strudel and Black Forest cake. It arrived with the check, and the waitress promising to return. She never returned. We sat for several minutes and she was no where to be seen. The strudel was nicely received, however the cake, while moist, had the undeniable flavor of a restaurant refrigerator.
I approached a person, whom I assumed was the maitre d', not knowing until now it was you. I asked that the item be deleted from my check, which you did promptly and efficiently. However, I am wondering why you did not ask what the problem was, so that you could improve the product/service? Again, it was not busy, so the inattention to this detail left me with a poor impression of your restaurant.
Our waitress was barely average and was left a gratuity that she did not really deserve.
All in all, the entrees were fine, but the attention to detail from the wait staff and you, fell far short of expectations for a restaurant with this amount of experience and reputation.
Good luck with your endeavors.
