we've eaten at Gilbert's many times & it remains our favorite for chowder (& living in new england we've had plenty of chowder). it is very thick, very rich and full of whole clams, not potatoes as so many other chowders tend to be. we have never been disappointed. we also are fully aware that this is not a 4-star restaurant & are quite happy not to have to `dress for the evening`. we come for the chowder & fried fish & good company & always leave satisfied.
