I was just generally disappointed with the food and the service. The 3 hostesses wondered around, seemingly not knowing what to do on a slower Wednesday night. The sheer number of staff was overwhelming, while the amount of professionalism and attention given to the customer was at an inverse proportion to their numbers. The only really great thing I had was the tuna sashimi appetizer in rice paper -- very tasty. The squash soup was ok, but I had the same soup the day before at Clyde's and it was much better. I had the swordfish, and what can I say -- bland, bland, bland. The Squid sauce had to flavor, the polenta was well prepared except for all lack of flavor, the greens were a combination of fried, steamed and tough, and the fish, while perfectly grilled, also had no flavor, albeit a vague fishy one. Did they run out of salt? No salt on the table either. Hell, some well-placed salt during preparation and/or just before sending it out could have really spruced this dish up -- maybe not to where I would have loved it, but at least it would have been above passable. And last up -- dessert. Pumpkin Creme Brulee. I love Creme Brulee. Maybe my short span of being a pastry chef makes me anal, but this was more like pumpkin filling mixed with some cream and a sugar top than true creme brulee. In fact, it might have curdled! You don't serve that. It was heavy and mealy, not thick and creamy as a creme brulee should be. The toasted pumpkin seeds served on top were good though. The shortbread sugar cookies were not. Generally, I was displeased. My co-workers said they enjoyed their duck and steak, so maybe stay with the red meat rather than the fish. And just plain stay away from dessert.
