As a resident of the Island of Maui, Hawaii, where many restaurants serve high quality seafood (providing you do the due diligence and select the right restaurants)I feel quite qualified to submit comments as it relates to seafood. We've also just returned from our fifth visit to Japan where they have some of the finest, and freshest, seafood in the world.....not to mention their high quality beef. With that said, following are my comments.First, the restaurant is located at 1475 Polk Street and not on California Street, albeit, its located almost right across the street.
Second, the roasted crab combined w/ owner An's garlic noodles was a gastronomical delight. Although far from being considered a `health food` (lots of butter is used to flavor the dish), the taste of the roasted crab is unsurpassed. My wife and I both agree that it's the best we've ever eaten.
Service by the waiters were excellent, service by the busboys was fast and efficient although they weren't well-versed in the english language, but that did not detract from the experience.
For those that complained about the price of the dishes, visit areas like Tokyo, Washington D.C., Boston, etc. Essentially, you usually get what you pay for.
For those that complained about the service, a lot depends on how YOU treat the help.
To anyone visiting San Francisco in the near future, I would wholeheartedly recommend that you visit this eatery as long as you're not an a Burger King budget.
As an aside, Yee's Restaurant in the touristy section of Chinatown (Grant Street) serves the best Peking Duck dish around. They've also been recognized in Bon Appetite magazine, August 2003 issue.
Aloha from Hawaii
